Back
Description

The Moroccan University Research Center for Goat Farming (MURCGF) is a national academic hub dedicated to advancing sustainable goat production in Morocco’s diverse agro-ecological zones. It focuses on breed improvement, pasture management, and rural livelihoods. MURCGF combines field trials with community-based research, working directly with local herders to test innovative practices. It has earned recognition for its expertise in native breed conservation and low-input farming systems suited to semi-arid areas. With strong links to national agricultural bodies and regional extension services, MURCGF supports farmer training and contributes technical guidance for policy frameworks that strengthen Morocco’s goat sector.

Role in The project

In this project, MURCGF leads on adapting and testing grazing, health monitoring, and feed systems suitable for Moroccan conditions. It coordinates pilot sites, trains local herders, and collects data on milk production and sustainability indicators. The center also ensures local knowledge is integrated into project tools and guides. MURCGF engages policymakers to scale up successful practices nationally and shares insights with other North African partners, contributing to regional knowledge exchange and impact.
